The Back 40 is an hold house built in 1897. It is been a local St. Augustine favorite for years. We have a very unique offering, specializing in Tex-Mex, Caribbean, and Vegetarian offerings. We have a great patio area that is fully shaded year round and is pet friendly. We have some of the friendliest staff in Saint Augustine and very talented cooks in the kitchen. All food is made from fresh products that are delivered daily. You can tailor your meal to meet your needs. We make all of our own sauces, dressings and salsa. We do not deep fry any product except for our fresh tortilla chips. You will find our portions a great value for the price. Come experience the best St. Augustine has to offer.

Food was delicious and plentiful. They have wine and beer at good prices. Two adults- I had the drunken burrito and my other half had a California Cuban. Both were large portions and full of flavor. Atmosphere was welcoming and fun, an old house turned into a restaurant (at least that’s what it appears). Dessert we had the pistachio cheesecake. Amazing!! Definitely would recommend and definitely will visit again when we are back in town.

First time here, out of town decided to get some food with family. Reviews here were good. The appearance of the restaurant doesn't look too appealing Overall the food was fresh, hot and delicious. Service was a little too slow, we sat outside: might have been short-staffed. The salsa and hummus was great, everyone enjoyed their food. Will recommend this restaurant and will stop by again.

Delicious foodWe had dinner here on a Tuesday night to take advantage of the Tuesday date night special – 2 drinks, 2 main meals and a dessert to share for $25. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed every mouthful. We each ordered a salad – curry shrimp and Thai chicken and peanut – and they came with lots of tasty fresh ingredients and house made dressing. The mud pie we ordered for dessert was a real winner too – chocolate brownie topped with toasted walnuts, coffee ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. There were lots of other great things on the menu too and most of the customers were regulars!
